We’re halfway through the school year, and there is no indication that hate incidents at school are slowing down.

In September, hate incidents including racism, anti-Semitism, and anti-immigrant and anti-LGBTQ sentiment continued as school leaders across the United States struggled to address them.

Instead of lessons about black history and culture, February brought slurs, blackface, threats and even violence at some U.S. schools.

In the first month that students returned to school in much of the United States, we found that hate picked up where it left off last year.

Last month, we tracked 72 school-based episodes of hate in 25 states and in Washington, D.C.

Unsafe school environments from coast to coast underscore the severity of the 38 school-based episodes of hate and bias we tracked during the month of April.

While student activism rightfully stole the headlines, we tracked 35 school-based episodes of hate and bias in 18 states during the month of March.
