The Crusader Monthly Newsletter, Volume 6, No. 2, October Special Edition 1964

This special edition of Robert F. Williams’ The Crusader newsletter contains a statement from Chairman Mao Tse-Tung from the previous year declaring that all oppressed people around the world should oppose the racial discrimination in the United States. He refers to the United States as an imperialist nation and details the treatment of Black people in the U.S. and their efforts to end this discrimination. The newsletter also describes the Kennedy administration as “two-faced” in its efforts toward civil rights legislation and makes connections between the U.S. government’s domestic policies regarding civil rights efforts and aggressive policies abroad. Also included in the newsletter is a 1964 speech by Chinese Chairman Liu Shao-Chi, where he expresses his support for the Black freedom struggle in the U.S. In the final article of the newsletter, Williams expresses his positive impression of the advances taking place in China.
