At the age of 18, artist Frida Kahlo (1907–1954) was nearly killed in a bus accident. Although she never fully recovered, she spent two years healing and creating self-portraits. Today, she is famous for her paintings, particularly the self-portraits that illustrated her pride in her Mexican heritage and identity. 

A los 18 años de edad, la artista Frida Kahlo (1907–1954) fue herida gravemente en un accidente de autobús. Aunque nunca se recuperó por completo, pasó dos años en recuperación creando autorretratos. Hoy en día, Frida Kahlo es famosa por sus pinturas, especialmente los autorretratos que ilustran el orgullo que ella sentía por su cultura e identidad mexicana.
