The COVID-19 outbreak and resulting social distancing guidelines affect the way we teach, learn and maintain relationships with our students and one another. These resources include a reminder to check our priorities, tips for making online courses culturally responsive and strategies for speaking up against coronavirus racism.

We commemorate this Fourth of July in the shadow of assaults on our human rights and bodily autonomy from those who do not uphold the values of democracy. We recognize that these efforts to strip away our rights are a backlash to positive social justice movements. Let us commit together to the movement for justice and democracy.

This Read Across America Week, we hope you’ll continue introducing diverse texts to all of your students. We also encourage you to incorporate inclusive young readers’ editions in your curricula and organize social justice reading groups to discuss a diverse range of stories and critical topics alongside students and caregivers.
