Follow these steps to customize this explanatory/definition task:

  2. Review the sample task and then fill in the task template fields below the sample task.
  3. Review the handout "Explanatory Writing Rubric." Adapt as necessary.

Sample Task

Essential Question:What is solidarity and why is it important for collective action?

Text Title(s): Read the Commonwealth Club Address.

Suggested Writing Product: Write an essay that defines solidarity and explains its significance in unions such as the United Farm Workers.

Additional Task Demand: Clarify your explanation with evidence from the text, and discuss relevant examples from your own personal experience.
