Formed by the Civil Rights Act of 1957, the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights extended its breadth of investigation under the Civil Rights Act of 1964. In this video, the commission is shown holding a hearing in Jackson, Mississippi, over issues of voter registration. The Civil Rights Act of 1964 established processes for the federal government to investigate civil rights violations, as demonstrated in this hearing.
