Joi Miner has been writing for as long as she can remember, but began her career as a spoken word artist. After making it to the finals in the Turner South “My South Speaks” competition, she appeared in a commercial and won slams at the Alabama Shakespeare Festival and the Green Mill in Chicago. Miner has four poetry collections under her belt: Graffitied Gypsy (2003), Fun House Mirrors (2005), Socioanthropologicfeminisms (2010) and Outrun The Night (2012). Margaret Huang is the president and chief executive officer of the Southern Poverty Law Center and its lobbying arm, the SPLC Action Fund. An experienced human rights and racial justice advocate, Huang leads the SPLC in its mission to serve as a catalyst for racial justice in the South, dismantling white supremacy, strengthening intersectional movements and advancing the human rights of all. Early in her tenure at the SPLC, she guided the organization during pivotal moments in the nation’s history that included the nationwide racial justice demonstrations of 2020 and the Jan. 6, 2021

Kathleen Melville teaches English, Spanish and playwriting at a small public high school in Philadelphia. A graduate of Swarthmore College, her degree is in English and education. Her teaching career includes two years at a bilingual school in Guatemala City and two years at a small Friends school for students with learning differences. She is also a teaching consultant with the Philadelphia Writing Project and enjoys reading, traveling and spending time outdoors.

Allison is the assistant press secretary for the Human Rights Campaign (HRC). The HRC represents a force of more than 1.5 million members and supporters nationwide.
