LGBTQ history is American history, and all of our students deserve to know that. This October, we hope you’ll join us in celebrating LGBTQ History Month. Here are a few of our favorite resources for learning and teaching about the contributions of LGBTQ people, including lessons, posters, articles and our podcast, Queer America, devoted exclusively to recovering this understudied history.

Celebrate Disability Pride Month by supporting and advocating for students with disabilities. These resources include real-life examples to model accessible learning environments for all students. Center the perspectives of people with disabilities to build students' understanding of the Americans with Disabilities Act. You can also print and display this beautiful poster with a quote by educator, activist and poet Kay Ulanday Barrett.

October is LGBTQ History Month. This edition of The Moment includes our brand-new guide to serving LGBTQ students—complete with tips for bringing LGBTQ history into your curriculum. We're also proud to debut our new podcast Queer America (which features the stories of queer life we should have learned in school) and to honor Matthew Shepard, who died 20 years ago this week.

LGBTQ Pride Month starts Saturday, and we're excited to honor it with some of our favorite resources! In this edition of The Moment, you'll find a history of the Stonewall Uprising that you can use to teach the fight for LGBTQ equality alongside other civil rights movements. We're also including our extensive guide for serving LGBTQ students. And we extend a heartfelt reminder that we see you standing up for your students every day—and we appreciate you.

In recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month, we're sharing resources for destigmatizing conversations about this critical topic. We hope you'll read, share and use them to make your classroom, school and district safe and inclusive for all students.

As National Suicide Prevention Month draws to a close, we want to offer one more reminder: This year, especially, it’s critical to encourage students and colleagues to talk about mental health and reach out for support when it’s needed. We hope these resources help.

Educators can use these LFJ resources to recognize, remember and teach intersectional LGBTQ history, including the experiences of young LGBTQ people of color. And this One World poster features a beautiful and timely message from Audre Lorde to inspire your students—all year long.

This Women’s History Month, as always, it’s important to recognize that women’s rights include trans rights. You can begin by introducing your students to some of the activists and changemakers who fought—and continue to fight—for equal rights for all women.
