Alfredo Artiles

Alfredo J. Artiles is Professor of Special Education in the Mary Lou Fulton College of Education at Arizona State University. Artiles has published extensively in the general, special, and bilingual education fields. His recent work has focused on the disproportionate placement of English Language Learners and ethnic minority students in special education. His work has also addressed the ways teachers become social justice educators in urban schools. He is a principal investigator for the National Center for Culturally Responsive Educational Systems (NCCRESt).

Elisa Pollard

Elisa Pollard teaches English and language arts an alternative school setting in North Carolina. For more than a decade, she has served on the State Superintendent's Ethic Advisory committee. As a single parent with two children of her own who have received free/reduced lunch, Pollard recognizes that students often don't come to school "ready to learn." She actively searches for literature and written material to meet her students where they are and to address their educational needs by way of their social issues.

Dana Compton McCullough is a biology teacher at Evans High School in Evans, Georgia. She has taught middle school science and language arts, 5th grade science, math, and language arts, and various high school science classes for 23 years in Columbia County, Georgia. She holds a Bachelor's Degree in Biology from Augusta State University and Master’s Degree in Biology from Georgia Southern University. Her research and teaching interests include teaching science for social justice and Freirean approaches to teaching and learning.
