Sarah-SoonLing Blackburn, Ed.D., is Learning for Justice’s associate director for learning in schools. Sarah has experience teaching at both the secondary and elementary levels and in 2011 was named Teacher of the Year at Lakeside Upper Elementary School in Lake Village, Arkansas. As a teacher educator, her areas of focus have included classroom culture, learning environments, and diversity, equity and inclusiveness. Understanding the Office and Holding the President of the United States Accountable

The president of the United States is the elected leader of the entire U.S. and must serve all who live here — not merely one constituency. They are responsible to everyone, and we have the reciprocal responsibility of holding the president accountable for everyone’s well-being. This is a central characteristic of living in a democratic society. To evaluate a president’s ability to fulfill the responsibilities of the office, we must understand the role and responsibilities, powers and limits on power, and systems of accountability.

Toolkit for Girls, Interrupted

As “Girls, Interrupted” documents, girls now account for 30 percent of juvenile arrests and 15 percent of juvenile incarceration—making them the fastest-growing demographic in the juvenile justice system. But they are the least talked about. This toolkit offers a list of resources that educators can consult to expand their knowledge about at-risk girls and build gender-responsive practices to support their needs.
