May is Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month. We encourage uplifting the histories and lived experiences of AAPI communities. Heritage months are an opportunity to celebrate the diversity of people and cultures that contribute to the rich tapestry of the United States. Our updated resource page offers a place to start for learning more and teaching about AAPI stories.

Schools should be safe and welcoming for all children—on this point responsible adults agree. But currently, discriminatory laws and censorship policies threaten the well-being of children. LGBTQ+ young people and families are being targeted, along with Black, Indigenous and other people of color and members of historically marginalized groups, whose histories and experiences are being misrepresented and erased.

Parents and caregivers must be intentional about the amount of content young people in their lives consume when it comes to gun violence, especially when such violence is motivated by extremism. Exposure to media coverage of these events should be accompanied by time for young people to reflect, discuss, ask questions and contextualize gun violence.
