Matthew Halpern is lucky enough to teach kindergarten. He left his former profession as a computer programmer and the hustle and bustle of the corporate world eight years ago to pursue his dream of teaching. Receiving his teaching certification through The University of Southern Maine’s alternative certification program ETEP, he then went on to earn his master’s in literacy education. His work in the classroom inspires his reflective writing.

Sonia Nieto is Professor Emerita of Language, Literacy, and Culture, School of Education, University of Massachusetts, Amherst. Amy Melik is an educator and facilitator with experience at the elementary, middle, high school and adult levels of education. She currently serves as ELL Teacher and coordinator for a school district near Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and is an equity specialist for BlackBlack and Associates, LLC. Amy serves on the Learning for Justice Ambassadors Collective as well. Her passion is working with culturally relevant practices as they relate to educators, parents and students, especially equitable opportunities for multicultural and bilingual families.
