A Healthy Reminder to Educators During School Closures

The annual National Black Lives Matter at School Week of Action for 2023 is February 6-10. The guiding principles behind this event can be an important frame through which to reimagine more liberatory educational spaces for Black children and—as these LFJ resources indicate—for all children. This Black History Month, be intentional in countering censorship efforts.
Most parents and caregivers support inclusive education based on credible, research-based pedagogy that values the well-being of all students.
The current administration’s assault on education illustrates public schools’ crucial role in our democracy. Understanding why public schools matter as a common good for our communities and nation is vital to countering efforts — such as the push for school vouchers — to undermine the public education system.
