Local history has a profound effect on our communities. It’s up to educators to learn and teach students about the hard history in their own backyards.
Cultural competency—the ability to work effectively and sensitively across cultural contexts—involves learning, communicating and connecting respectfully with others regardless of differences.
Instead of discussing current events only on Tuesdays or only in response to traumatic events, let’s help students use the curriculum to understand and act against current injustices.
