Reckoning With Honest History Through Ongoing Education

Young people aren't alone in seeking opportunities to learn honest history, and the classroom isn't the only location where such education can take place. In various community spaces—including virtual ones—many adults are also willing to do the work reckoning with our nation’s history of anti-Blackness and white supremacy, recognizing that past in the present and finding liberatory ways forward. Recognize Trailblazers on Women’s Equality Day

Women’s Equality Day commemorates the ratification of the 19th Amendment on Aug. 26, 1920. It’s important to remember that many Black women and more women of color didn’t earn the right to vote until years later. Read Sojourner Truth’s “Ain’t I a Woman?” with its intersectional message delivered during her 1851 speech at the Women’s Rights Convention in Akron, Ohio. Rediscovering the healing power of horses

“The Fort Peck Assiniboine & Sioux Tribes Reservation in Montana is home to tribes whose culture was defined by their relationship to their land and their horses. Generations of systemic oppression drained their culture of its traditional meaning, and they struggle with grief, shame, and loss. Their trauma has led to fractured families, substance abuse, and a high teen suicide rate. Charlie Four Bear gives troubled Fort Peck youth a chance to build relationships with horses, and through them, with tribal elders like himself, to reclaim their tribal family’s cultural pride.”
